Hello Everyone,

Once in a awhile I come across a single specimen coin for sale (older ones, 1937, 1946, 1948, etc).
Are these coins always from broken specimen sets or did the mint issue some individual specimen coins?
Thank you for any help you may be able to offer

Certain years had sets.but from my understanding you could call the mint for certain years I.e. 42-47 and order a single coin as a collector coin (specimen)

Apitrix, I believe you are correct on the singles. You could call and order singles of any denomination. Certain obvious exceptions such as the 37 and 08 that came in full sets. but I believe in most years you could order a special strike coin. It came in a small burgandy envelope.

Thank you for the information...this leads to my next question, is there anywhere I can look up estimated mintages of the specimen sets and single coins issued as mentioned above...
It seems not a lot of individual specimen coin have surfaced, based on checking the population reports
Any further information on earlier specimen coins would be appreciated, thanks again!
