Hello to everyone. Here is my latest find. I am eager to hear your opinions.

On the plus side:

Weight: 26.9g
Specific Gravity: 10.3
Minor die clash "H" to the right of E in Vtraque
Small die crack through the tops of VN in Vnum
And two reversing pattern overlaps on the edge at 180 degrees

My big concerns are the weak and or missing crossbars in the "F" and all of the "E's" on both sides of the coin and the obvious reworking of the "o" on both mint marks.

Can't wait to hear from everyone.

Sorry for not responding sooner. In my opinion, a TPG would probably encapsulate this one as genuine. That being said, it must be noted that TPGs don't spend a lot of time on authentication.

Have you seen any other examples of the reworked o in the mintmark (preferably slabbed examples)?

It looks like there is about two segments of overlap at both sites. At first I did not notice that and was concerned at the discrepancy in overlap length.

I say it's more likely genuine than not.

Thanks jgenn. I am looking at all dates in the late 1750s in slabs to see if there are any with the missing letter parts and reworked mint marks. As I am sure you are aware, the quality of auction photos is often poor, making the task even more difficult.

I am hoping that Swamperbob sees my post and chimes in. In earlier threads he has talked about missing letter parts as a good indicator of a counterfeit. But with all of the other indicators being on the plus side, I just wonder if this was an old resurrected die with some poor reworking that they used to finish out the strike for the year.

Swamperbob: If you have the time I'd sure be interested in your opinion on this one. Thanks
