I just opened a bank box of pennies to sort through. It appears the majority of the coins are uncirculated 2008 pennies. I have heard that uncirculated new rolls command a premium. I am not sure what I should do with them. Here are my questions:
1. The coins are machine wrapped. Do I unwrap them to determine if they are all the same?
2. If I unwrap them and they are uncirculated, what should I do?
I also have a box of 2006 pennies in what appears to be the same condition. Are these coins worth holding on to?

I have sold 15 boxes of '08 pennies for $80 per box and have 3 left to sell. I am making a profit of $46 per box after fee's. So far my total profit is $677.00. Individual rolls are selling for between $2 and $3. My supply is starting to run low but I plan to keep it up for as long as I can.

Jewelcard:
Mine are in the red and white wrappers. Should I take them out? How do you verify they are all '08?

I just picked up my first box of '08 cents today as well. Does anyone have any advice on the best method for selling these? Also any advice for the best/cheapest shipping method would be greatly appreciated. I may keep 10 rolls to sell a few years or so from now. The rest will be available. I'm just not sure what to offer them for. That is other than what you've been selling them for jewelcard.-That's motivaton enough to head back to the bank on Monday for more ! Thanks all!

Yes mine are also in the red and white wrappers. The outside of the box should have an inspections stamp with a date of around Feb 11th. Also if you look through the holes you should be able to make out some of the dates as 2008 and all the rolls have to be shiny brand new looking. The cheapest way to ship them I found is a priority flat rate box. I can fit 2 boxes of pennies in there and ship it for $8.95. It doesn't matter the weight you have up to 80 lbs to fit in there for 1 low price. I have been putting them on ebay (under the seller name jewelcard) for a fixed price of $80 with shipping of $9.50. I have been averaging a little more than 1 box sold every night. The ones running 7 day auctions are realizing prices from $70 to $78 with the same shipping. I have only 3 boxes left, 2 of which are on ebay. I keep 2 at a time on ebay as I do not want to flood the market. I tried getting some more boxes from my banks today but they were all out. One bank said they should be getting some more in next Wednesday so I am keeping my fingors crossed.

Thanks for answering those questions jewelcard. Looks like I may have the same problem many of you also have. The boxes I've been getting don't have the perforations in the the top of the box. I haven't tried other banks yet but suppose I could just to make sure. Otherwise I'll just have to keep trying until another 'new' box comes up. If we get the mixed coins we can always search for the old stuff .

I have either been calling banks or going to them and I always ask them for the new 2008's and they all knew what I was talking about because they went and got them for me, so I must have been lucky and hit banks that know their business. One bank today did say they had no way of telling and I told them to look at the date stamp on the box and the lady siad the boxes are not dated. Well after she went and looked she comes back with a box and a surprised look on her face. I guess she realized I did know what I was talking about. Alas it was a mixed box and not a 2008 box. Here is a pic of my boxes. You can see the holes on the box so it lets you verify that there are 50 rolls of coins. This is how I can tell they are 2008's also.

I'll admit, I have never seen a box before. I cannot believe it actually says "PENNIES" on it!

I have been to a dozen banks and still cannot get any. It seems no banks in my area have 2008 yet. Last year at this time I never had a problem

I think 2008 will be a significant year for cents. Could be the last of this design since the commemoratives come out next year.
