I was curious about a coin that I traded an 1896 Indian Head penny for which is the 1916-S Lincoln Memorial penny and I'm very surprised at it's condition on both faces of the coin. Lincoln is very detailed and there are no apparent scratches or marks. It appears unused. How much is this coin worth. I want to post a picture but I just don't know how to do it from an iPhone. It's very shiny too. Please help me if you can. I wanted to drive it into San Antonio to a dealer or trader but I figured I would ask y'all about it. I'm not a coin expert but I'm working on it#128526;

You have a 1916-S Wheat cent, not a Memorial cent. From the given pictures, I cannot tell enough. Based on what I see in the low-quality pictures, my gut says it's been cleaned. Cleaning can take away 90% or more of a coins value. Attempt to get better pictures and properly cropped. In order for us to access the coin, we'll need pictures similar to this:

Agree. Original coin appears circulated and possibly plated.

I've had trouble trying to get better pics but navigating with a shattered iPhone screen I have trouble. I agree with you guys that it's awfully shiny but my dim lighting could have caused that. I wonder what the chances are this guy of opening a proof coin package. Aren't proof coins shinier than regular coins. It probably isn't worth anything if he did

Will it increase the value if I take it out back and kick it around in the dirt. Don't think it would be hard to dingy up a coin . Lol

I'd like to edit the topic. Not sure why I put in Lincoln Memorial. Is there a way to do this?

Quote: How much is this coin worth in perfect unpolished condition? About $175 in MS-63 or a few thousand more in MS-65 .

Dang, I wish I could tell for sure whether it has been polished. It looks like it's had very good protection for a century. How can I learn the different stages of the condition of a coin (ms-63) etc. There is a lot I need to know

How does one determine the condition of a coin with dirt and grime all over it. Couldn't grime cover up scratches
