Hello all,

I went to a Rommel on Sunday here in Belgium, after I had cleaned out all his best Banknotes(that's my main collection, I moved onto his coins as I've picked up a few good coins from him in previous years.
I tend to get coins when I cant find banknotes but I dont know much about them.

So I picked this up along with some 1820's Farthings and Half Pennies.
This coins stood out because ..... hmmm shinies... because it was shiny and British Indian. Btw I know this probably isn't the right forum but I thought as it was a British coin but from India I may get more luck finding value out in this forum.

I'll tell you what I know, it has a slanted 1 in '1862', not flat. The Half and Anna are virtually in line as I know there is another version where it is more spread out.

The back, her head is a little worn but the dress is actually very detailed. I know the camera doesn't show this but please excuse that, this Android doesn't like close ups of coins, it goes all blurry but the dress detail is there.

It looks like it measure about 30.5mm, I know there are 3 different lengths but this looks closer to 30.5. I used the line under 'ANNA' as a guide across the coin to measure.

Just wondered any sort of value? I picked it up for 5 euros so anything over that is a bonus, am not going to sell it tho. It will go into the collection.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

All the best :)

Again, sorry about the pics, best I could do with this heap of a camera lol

I think this is one of the Tough/Key dates and 5E is about the going rate for a worn example So I am thinking that you did Ok with this
The Early Brit Indian coins happen to be a favourite of mine But I have only been collecting them for a few years so I only have a limited knowledge of them, But I do find them to be rather easy on the eyes

Yea they definitely are. I bought a few on Sunday, 1838 USA Cent mint condition, 1806 Half Penny, 1865 Farthing in mint but this one is my favorite.
I like the fact it still has the sheen, the floral pattern is all there but just has a lot of like gunk build up in the gaps, looks like brown crud but I must resist attempting to clean it lol.
It's just a shame about the other side, its strange, its not scratched but more looks like someone has spent 3 days constantly rubbing it with a cloth lol

Thank you for your swift reply, into the collection it goes, maybe in a few decades it will be worth a bit more.

According to Spink's catalogue, the diameter differs according to the mint.

Calcutta 31.3mm
Bombay 30.5mm
Madras 30.7mm

Which one have you got?
