So I got this the other night from an auction at my local coin club. The fellow that had it in the auction said he found it in his desk drawer and forgot he owned it. He labeled it mystery coin and put it in the auction. I had to bid, 3 bucks..why not!

I have looked around the internet for a bit trying to figure it out....got nothing.....another fellow at the club said maybe is Austrian?

Any help is much appreciated.

I agree!

Is there any chance you could improve the lighting on your pics a little? More like the very first one in your post. Also, I'm hoping that someone here can weigh in on why it looks silver, but then has a little bit of brass peeking through in areas of higher wear.

I honestly don't know what to make of this one. I don't think it's ancient, might be Medieval. I tried to enhance your images a bit but it didn't really help. So we are going to need better pictures.

Pretty sure I see REPVB... in the legend. The lettering is far too crude to be Roman, and barbarous copies were usually pretty sturdy coins despite their artistic shortcomings; I think we can probably rule out Rome here.

The world saw a pretty crippling shortage of republics during the dark and middle ages.

Maybe early renaissance? Fantasy? I honestly have no clue!

@solidifier, much better pics, but I am still flummoxed.

I agree that there is REPVR on one side, but then VEh on a second line, both facing away from the center of the coin? Evidence of being overstruck? On the other side, *D*SR with a sideways letter S?

Maybe Bob can (once again) come to the rescue? He is the master of this stuff.
