The 2017 Year of the Rooster gold and silver bullion coins are the 10th coins released in the Perth Mint's famous Australian Lunar Series II. These fabulous coins celebrate the rooster, one of the 12 animals of the ancient Chinese Lunar Calendar. People who are born under the "Year of Rooster" sign (1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, and newborns from 2017) are considered as loyal, honest, sociable and extremely hardworking, which makes these gorgeous coins an excellent choice as a birthday or anniversary gift.

The obverse side of both gold and silver coins features the famous effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. Her Majesty's portrait is surrounded by the inscriptions "Elizabeth II", "Australia", "2017" and the weight, purity, and denomination of the coin. On the reverse side of the lunar gold coin is engraved the image of a rooster standing amidst bamboo and leaves. The reverse side of the lunar silver coin depicts the rooster along with the hen and their three chicks, standing amongst flowers and bamboo foliage. The reverse images of both coin versions are encircled by the inscription "Year of the Rooster", "P" mintmark and the Chinese character for "rooster".

The 2017 Year of the Rooster Lunar Gold and Silver Coins are struck from .9999 pure gold and .9999 pure silver in bullion quality. These stunning coins are legal tender in Australia, having their weight and purity backed by the Australian Government. Each bullion coin is offered by the mint in a protective acrylic case to preserve the outstanding quality and condition. Perth Mint will produce in unlimited issues the 1 kg, 10 oz. 2 oz., ½ oz., ¼ oz., 1/10 oz., 1/20 oz. gold coins and the 1 kg, 10 oz., 5 oz., 2 oz., ½ oz. silver coins. The mint will produce only 100 10 kg silver coins, 300,000 2017 1 lunar silver coins and 30,000 1 lunar gold coins. Since the 1 oz. lunar coins are highly collectible, the limited gold and silver coins are believed to sell out fast.
