I acquired this coin/charm when I purchased a Jin Chan (money frog) from an elderly Chinese restaurant owner years ago. I've always assumed it was either a charm or replica but of what coin. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Your picture of the obverse is upside down, but three of the four characters don't seem to match any Qing dynasty cash I can find on Calgary Coins.

No "tong bao" = not a coin. Those are about the only characters I know, so I'm afraid I can't help with what it actually does say.

I have seen a handful of sellers on ebay who sell nonsense fantasy coins. Your coin does have (I think) the Manchu mintmark for either Board of Revenue or Board of Works in Beijing; that would mean it would have to be a Qing coin if anything. It isn't, so it must be a fantasy or charm.

Thank you! I had assumed it was a charm, but had no clue how or where to begin research on it. And oops didn't know it was upside-down, my bad. I always figured it was a good luck/money talisman or something because it was came with the money frog.
