I got me a camera and I notice right away that when taking pics of my coins to upload here my shadow is in the way. What is best setup for taking photos of coins? Do I need some kind of stand? Can someone guide me in this?

browsing older topics here http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...?FORUM_ID=81 should get you a ton of ideas, but as Rocky says, telling of what you're shooting with and showing an example can help us help you too.

I think the recommended setup for coin photography for this website is the $400 budget setup (search for the "$400 budget" thread). Basically, that setup involves:

- (old, but not too old) Canon DSLR
- old enlarger lens, and maybe low-power microscope objectives
- tethered shooting through USB cable to a computer (focus via Live View)
- copy stand, or adapted (stereo?) microscope stand
- Jansjo lights
- bellows or extension tubes, and various adapters

However, even cell phones can take great coin pics -- one of the most important aspects of coin photography is the lighting.
