Gosh, I love when a lowball bid wins an auction!

Caligula As, Vesta reverse:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CALIGULA-AS...=WON&trxId=0

(Not sure how the price will display, but a hair under $25)

Gordian III antoninianus, Virtus reverse

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GORDIAN-III...=WON&trxId=0

(About $23)

I had a hideous Gordian III provincial, so this nice silver will be a fine replacement. The lack of a Caligula in my collection had been bothering me, so this will tide me over until I am at the point where I can justify/afford a denarius of his, inching my way toward a 12 Caesars set.

Agreed, to not have such an iconic figure in a set of Roman coins is disappointing. I have to make due with my Vespasian with the portrait showing his busted up nose.

Great pick-ups!

Thanks!

I actually have a bunch of the "must have" emperors left to go in my collection... definitely Tiberius, Titus, Domitian, (probably) Nerva, and my Marcus Aurelius is in such poor shape and from such an obscure province (it's not even in wildwinds) that it might as well not count either.

It's almost shameful that I am still missing them, but have Galba, Herod Antipas, Pontius Pilate, and most of the usurpers from the 4th century.

Nice grab!

I also bid on the Caligula As, but at 15$ Canadian for shipping, I was out. Congrats
