Interesting item found in a bulk bag of assorted tokens. It appears that there is a shell over the reverse. And it conforms very well. The obverse most of the rim is very tight to edge. Haven't worked at really seeing about the edge.
It isn't a magic trick, that I have seen or heard about. I can't come up with a reason for a zinc shell on a 1963 penny. Any members have any clue?

My assessment is that a 1963 copper, whose rim was ground off with a lathe, was married to the zinc reverse (post '82) after the zinc was also ground out to precise tolerances with a lathe.

Why? Probably practice for doing the same with Sac Dollars and quarters. Several people do this and sell the results as novelties at coin shows and other.

I think it's interesting that the reverse was messed with to remove lincolns statue and the obverse has evidently seen some independent circulation. Those details are what makes me think this is a practice piece.

Pure Conjecture: The artist is a member of this Forum and has been waiting for one of us to find it and post it online. That would be analogous to giving the lightning bolt to Frankenstein's Mule, giving it LIFE!

Maybe
