Here's a 1949 1c piece that appears to have been struck on a foreign planchet. The planchet has a smaller diameter (18mm), and is about 1/3 of the thickness of a typical 1c piece (and possibly even less than that). As you will see below, it's weakly struck on both sides. It's so light weight that it won't even produce a reading on any of my digital scales. I'm not sure what the metal is that it's struck on as it has a slightly different golden/brassy colour/tone compared to an ordinary 1c piece struck in that era, and it's certainly not a planchet used in any other Canadian decimal currency either. I can confirm the metal is non-magnetic. Anyone have any thoughts on this piece or seen one like it, especially from that time period? Any idea on value?
