The 95 Proof may or may not be rare but it will cost you $50,000 to find out! There is an awful lot I could do with 50 grand besides stare at a coin. I know a true collector does not see it that way. It is the hunt and the "kill" of obtaining such a coin that is a thrill. Showing it off to others who appreciate it is also a bonus. We still have not defined "rare" in the
Coin World. Are there coins that are rare but not valuable and are there coins that are not rare but very valuable? The 1884-S Morgan is not rare but in MS65 it must be rare as heck because it goes for well over $200,000. The 1886-O is even more abundant in grades up to AU and then begins to explode in value to being almost untouchable in MS65 for most of us. So what is rare? Does the wise old frog have the answer....rivet, rivet.
