I just got this back from ANACS. I sent it in, because I wanted to verify it was authentic. FYI - For those that are not familiar. 1894 Morgan is the thirds lowest mintage. 1895 mintage 880 proof only 1893 S mintage 100,000 1894 mintage 110,000 I know this one has a lot of problems, but it filled a hard empty hole. And I picked it up at a very good price What are your opinions 1 -Bust it out and put it back into the Dansco 2 - Leave it in the slab, just knowing I have the coin and leave the hole empty. 3 - Sell this coin, at hopefully a profit. And buy a better grade coin. This coin Greysheet $750 in VG. Of course this one is details 1894 Morgan

I think I would keep it just like it is until you can get a better one. The 1894 is a great mystery as to why they don't sell for more since there are just 10,000 more of them than 1893-S? They don't get really expensive until you hit the MS condition. I would keep it in the container and try to sell it at a profit which I would then invest in a better 1894. The 1893CC sells for more in AU and 6 times as many were minted than 1894.

I like the idea of putting the up for sale at a profit, then, reinvest the money on a better grade, problem free example.

I agree with the above comments, sell as is and look for a better example for your Dansco.

Yes pics are good enough to put it on ebay. Why wait? And I was about to correct you about 3rd lowest until I saw that you're counting the 95 for some reason

Yeah, keep it in the holder, after all you paid to put it there, and it will bring more eventually, holdered.

If there wasn't a hole in my Dansco for that 1895, I know I would not have counted .... of course I will never own one

Pics look OK for ebay. The coin definitely has issues; no sense trying to sugar-coat them.

I don't quit understand why the 1894 with mintage of 110,000 is valued so much less than the 1893-S with mintage of 100,000. You can get the 94 in MS64 for around $9000. The 93-S in the same condition costs around $300,000. Why are these scarce coins so different in cost? The 94 seems like a screaming "buy" but I obviously don't know all the facts regarding demand and supply.

It's not all about mintage numbers. Survivability is key. Many Morgan's were melted down during the pitman act and there's a good chance many more 93s than 94p were in the pots

When was Pitman Act put into practice? I am not sure that Act explains why 93-S is 350 times as expensive as 94 Morgan both in MS64. How many 93-S Morgans exist compared to 1894 Morgans? Is there some way to find out and would that explain it? Nobody even talks about 1895 proof because that is another White Whale and I am not Ahab.

Quote: When was Pitman Act put into practice? 1918 https://www.NGCcoin.com/news/article/902/1895 Morgan's do get talked about once in a while. But it is very rare to even see one .. The story goes ... 12,000 business strikes are on the mint records. None of those have ever been seen. Some think that those 12K might not have been date 1894. That it is possible they were dated 1894 but made in 1895. Or they may have been melted in 1918. There also were 880 proof coins minted, according to mint records. The ones that come up for sale are proof coins.

Just for clarification, Not a single 95p business strike has been seen GR. Not a 1 so "very rare to see" is a huge understatement lol
