I have been sending in coins to be graded lately. It seems ANACS has been giving me a lot of "Details" grades. I sent this one in to help fill the 10 coin requirement. I was thinking it would have gotten a Details grade .. I thought the pictures were better ..

A little spotting here and there, but certainly not a details coin.

I remember buying this coin in the early 1980's. It was in my Dansco 8100. A year or so ago I upgraded to one I like a lot better.
This one was sitting around, I guess getting it graded worked out.
Thanks all for your opinions.
Edit
Reading back I see I forgot to mention. I know what the person who owned this coin before me had done to it. Over the years I have tried to correct what was done. It was pretty shiny when I got it.
I guess there is proper cleaning ....

Sorry to burst your bubble but I would have given it a details grade . Too many issues with this coin .

I would have said "Details" as well due to the deep gashes on the reverse, especially if you sent it to ANACS as they grade hard.
Congrats on the clean grade.

Quote: ...ANACS as they grade hard And yet American numismatists tend to rate ANACS as second tier under PGCS and NGC, which makes no sense. Well, it makes no sense if one wants a TPG to carefully evaluate a coin per the ANA grading specifications. On the other hand, if one wants to attract more business and increase profits... ~ Mark Quote:The ANA Coin Grading Scale United States coins are most often graded with a scale created by the American Numismatic Association ( ANA) , a non-profit group created in 1891 and chartered by Congress since 1912. The ANA grading scale is summarized below. For more details and illustrations, see Official ANA Grading Standards for United States Coins. Might this be a piece of evidence that the graders will occasionally let a rare, valuable, or popular coin get away with a few more flaws at a given grade level?

If those reverse gouges don't land it in a details holder then the market value should value it as a details coin.

It is a nice coin, good original color and gritty patina, I like it. But...the reverse is damaged, I'm surprised they graded it clean.

Here's my opinion on companies to slab with:
Toned coins and rare dates: PCGS Regular MS coins: NGC Errors and Die Varieties: ANACS
