Some people are getting an email from Colonial Acres regarding on the new Big Coin Series. Quote:Hello everyone. I am contacting you because you have been on the 2015 or the 2016 Big coin Subscription. The RCM is coming out with another Big coin subscription. This time it will commemorate Canada's 150th Anniversary by using the powerfully symbolic 1967 Canadian Centennial circulation coins. Each coin will have selective gold plating on the front and back with the same 5 denominations as previous years - Dollar, 50c, 25c 10c, 5c, and now the 1 cent! Colonial Acres Coins has access to a limited quantity of subscriptions. The issue price for each coin is $549.95 - our price for the full subscription will be $525 each coin - free shipping as always. Please let me know if you are interested and I can add you to the list.

I got the heads up from my MC rep to be looking for the preview on Monday. I am undecided whether or not to get it from the RCM. They now collect Tennessee sales tax at 9.25% and even with the exchange it would likely be cheaper to buy from a U.S. dealer by about $50 even if I factor in the free shipping. The downside is that it wouldn't count toward MC status for whatever that is worth - but it likely wouldn't add up to $300!

@canuck1us, I have a similar dilemma. If I buy from the RCM, I have to pay 7% PST which is $230. Should I buy from the RCM where I will be vaulted to a higher tier or should I buy from a out of province dealer who don't charge PST. Its a hard choice.

Wait! Did I read that correctly? The penny is making an encore appearance? I was just getting over having to say "farewell to the penny" with several farewell to the penny coins and now only 5 years later, it's back?

Does anyone know if this series is available only to MC members? Or is it available to all?

As I can understand, the mintage is 2.150 - this is for 150 Anivversary. Not clear, why 150.0 is bad number, cause it also contains '150'

So I assume the penny will be silver. This sounds like a Steve Bromberg commission.
I would like to see the set, it is one of my favourite designs. Would the queen effigy be old? It must be IMO. Can't decide between, Goose, Wolf, Lynx, Mackerel, Hare, or Dove. Big fat goose dollar for the desk. These won't be around long. Nostalgic.

With the plans for this set, do not forget about possibility, that RCM will release Big 5 oz coins for 2017 designs as well.

Silveroid, I believe the 5 oz set has been confirmed as mentioned above.

Yes I agree with Redzapsid, at $549.95, it better be at least 5 oz. Noting you can get a 5 oz bar for $103. But the rarity and proof/frosted designs should present some wow factor and certain collectability from those fans of 1967 Canadian coinage. Picture the double date 1867-2017.

It's entirely possible RCM releases at least two 5oz sets in 2017 - a commemorative 1967-2017 plus a 2017 set of the 150th anniversary design. But could there be more - guilded versus painted? Just a comment, hoping RCM plans to inform the public of all the various types of Canada anniversary related releases in advance. Otherwise it makes it difficult for collectors to make an informed purchasing decision without knowing the options.

They likely won't. They sell more that way.

I suspect they do, although buyers regret does not make for long term, loyal customers. I also wonder that the "what's it going to be this month" type of hyped advertising promotion that RCM continually engages in wears thin after awhile for a lot of collectors because it's clearly based on impulse buying. As prices and offerings creep higher and higher, often hundreds of dollars just for one coin, is that manner of frenzied, impulse buying in the best interests of a Cdn Crown Corp to be promoting? 2017 could represent a year of big change where RCM does things differently:-)
