I have a coin mintage question in regards to the Charlton Guide to Canadian Coins. In the coin listings, it shows the various coin types like for the business strikes, PL, Specimen, Proof, etc. Now the mintage number shown, is that across all the formats of the said coin for that year?

it may or may not be, in all honesty I would expect them to do something like the RedBook does, where they list the mintage of proofs and other strikes in brackets but than again we do not know the mintages of many early specimens.

I have a Canadian Half collection from 1963 to now, all uncirculated. Some are from sets, some are from rolls, and some are specimens. I have really come to appreciate the specimen strikes.

The mintages listed in Charlton's front section are for business strikes only.
Post'71 specimens are plentiful and relatively inexpensive.
1970 and earlier specimens (excepting 1967) are hard to find and very costly.
