sorry but the photo is to blurry to tell ---when taking a photo do it at 90 degrees to the coin --plus both sides would be better to tell what variety it would be
Cheers Don

with this variety and the fact that it is an 150+ year old copper coin there is ZERO chance anyone would be able to tell the difference between these with images. the coin needs to be XRF to determine the exact metal components.
you need to search out a local coin shop who may have one on hand.
good luck.

Post a photo of the reverse side. The 3 that I have seen were early strikes, as gauged by the width of the vine break at leaf 7. Your coin looks exactly like the more than 10,000 other regular bronze cents that have crossed through my hands and doesn't appear to have any brassy yellow. Even bronze takes on a yellow tint if it's been cleaned by anything with an oxidizing agent and yours has been cleaned. There's no Vicky crud in the crevices.

Quote: Looks like copper to me. Actually, I think you meant bronze... all Canadian 1-cent coins up to 1996 (except for a few rare errors) are bronze.

What's in a name? Smallcentguy collects copper cents. Sherwood Park Pennies collects bronze pennies. Yet they both are colecting the same series.

Yes - but building a date set of those is proving to be much harder!! I just got a box back from PCGS and have about 6 more to add to this set though... (including a 1964 cent struck on a silver 10c blank). http://www.PCGS.com/SetRegistry/sho...aspx?sc=1855Eventually, I want to split that PCGS showcase into two showcases. One strictly for 1c struck on Canadian 10c planchets and one for 1c struck on other off-metal planchets.

I'm right now thinking how cool that would look in a showcase SPP.... That's awesome!
