Anyone know why ebay gift cards are no longer redeemable for coins?

Quote:
The Gift Card may not be used to pay ebay or PayPal service fees. The Gift Card also may not be used to buy ebay Gift Cards, third party gift cards, gift certificates, coupons, coins, paper money, virtual currency, or items generally considered to be "bullion" (for example, gold, silver, and other precious metals in the form of coins, bars, or ingots).

Don't get me wrong... I'll still use ebay, but they are a crooked organization... paypal and ebay both being owned by the same parent company yet when I sell something on ebay, not only do I have to pay listing fees and selling fees on final prices, but then a fee on people paying with paypal too... I wish more of us would utilize forums such as this and sell our coins and currency to other collectors without big evil corporate getting half of the money that we sell things for. Listen, I know what the intent is for this page, it is about passing knowledge back and forth and learning, but that doesn't mean that this couldn't be a place for collectors to come together and buy and sell items they have been looking for. Moderators/Admins - The rules you have put in place on restrictions for buy/sell/trade/wants, don't help in making this forum stronger in education, it actually hurts because less people are likely to stay on here and participate because you are splitting their focus between here (where they can learn something) and another site (where they are leaving you to go buy what they want)... I think it is time for a reformation...

I try to sell as much stuff as I can on this site as I hate the fees on eBay/paypal. Sure sometimes I will lower prices to what I would get from ebay but just to give a known-collector a discount rather than more profit for me. Also thanks to the OP for the notice glad I don't get ebay gift cards... hope they don't change the ebay bucks to not include coins too.

Do you know if that applies to EBucks? When I make a purchase ebay gives me EBucks on a percentage of the purchase which I can use to spend on ebay. I wonder if you can't but buy coins with EBucks.

There are also changes to ebay Bucks. I read you will no longer be able to use them on gift cards.

You never received ebay Bucks if the coin you bought was in the bullion category. I never understood that limitation either.
Rest in Peace

Many states, mine included, have restrictions, limitations, and licensing requirements on bullion that they don't on coins.

ebay and PayPal haven't been owned by the same company for several years.

Tell most of the top coin dealers why they are wrong to sell on ebay. They will laugh at you. Buy a table at a show with all the expenses or operate only from a website and dealers will tell you that the ebay and PP fees are considerably less than almost any other option, including brick and mortar.

Tried using my ebay GC for coins yesterday and I too could not use it. This is not right by ebay. They basically have my money and I have a worthless(to me) piece of plastic. I hope someone can bring a suit against them. Anyone know of something similar to ebay that doesn't have these issues?

Yes, I didn't know this and just found out (after a purchase, of course.). For the past few years I have asked family members for gift cards (instead of cash gifts for the holidays) so I can use them to purchase coins online. This is the first time I have had a problem. I hope that not too many people will be disappointed like I was.

I also advise against wasting time with the call center: a truly frustrating experience.

Now, what to buy on ebay is the question......

I was disappointed to learn this as well but have used this "opportunity" to purchase some things I've always meant to purchase but never did like books, albums, a scale, magnifier, and a digital caliper.

Just sell the gift card for 10% under value and spend the money on coins
