Looks real to me. Have no idea what the variety is (There are many more than what appear in the RedBook.)
These were the only coin actually government authorized for one of the colonies. (All the other colonial coins were private issue or in the case of the Massachusetts silver local government authorized. The state coppers,Mass, CT, NJ are not colonial, and the VT coppers are the issue of an independent country.) They were struck I believe by The Royal Mint but were late arriving in VA and were not received until just before the Revolutionary War broke out. Issuing George III coins then would not have been prudent. Also they were much smaller than the current British halfpence which would probably have made them unpopular. For these reasons the VA half penny tends to be readily available today in much better condition then the other "colonial" coins at a much lower price.
