I try to turn my regrets into learning moments, that whole lemonade from lemons or "fool me once" mentality. Just suck it up and remember that success comes from failure.

I guess you just have to learn not to buy sight-unseen without return privileges.

Pretty sure that actions have been a learning experience for everyone here that has participated in them. The lessons that I have learned is to only go the auction root for coins that are truly scarce (eliminates MOST U.S. coins) that I have given some proper research to in advance to with the common sense test questions. I'm overall happy with most of my Heritage and ebay buys. For items that are not all that rare, I'd be happiest simply negotiating for the right coin found at a show after I've held it.

I've never purchased anything on line. Never at an auction either. I really am just to cautious a person and hear way to much about scams.
Rest in Peace

No regrets from shopping on ebay -- so far. But I don't buy a lot there.

I am, however, a complete bidiot at live auctions. So the only live auction I will go to now is the one that supports my local coin club. We have a white elephant auction and all the money goes to the club which is fine with me.

Yes I have had auction purchases of coins that I have later regretted, Just like any other items purchased.
As there are probably only half a dozen coin shops in my entire State and none of them are within 300 miles of me I use ebay and other internet auction houses almost exclusively to get my coins.
I have certainly had some "Lemons" but on a whole my buying experiences have been good.
I have bought thousands of coins online and have sent less than 10 back for refunds, anything that is low value garbage goes into my "You Bloody Idiot" bucket and I consider them as being my numismatic tuition fees

In a perfect World I would be able to see "In Hand" my purchases, But it isn't and I have to use whatever means available to acquire the coins I want

Yes I have, at public and online auctions. My first public auction I got caught up in the bidding frenzy and ended up paying triple the value of about 200 circulated Mercury dimes, because I didn't know what I was doing, ha-ha.

I've had pretty good luck on ebay by following three very strict rules: don't buy it if the photograph is unclear, don't buy anything that can't be returned, and don't buy from any vendor who is not rated 100%.

It happens to all of us regular buyers at one time or another. One rule of thumb I have is that I will only bid on auctions that I have taken the time to read the description and done a little research. That takes longer than two minutes, so the auctions which are ending soonest when I first go onto ebay are out.

I've been to public auctions and saw people bid on coins and go above what they are worth then go to pay and get hit with a 23% increase (13% tax and 10% auction fees) that they didn't know about because they didn't read.
