Dated a gal in B.C. some years back, her father was in the Canadian Regiment there, he got off the boat in Hong Kong in late November, just a young kid, and in a couple of weeks was in full combat with the Japanese. He spent nearly 4 years in China in a camp for POWs.

He volunteered for Korea and got sent there, this time he wasn't captured, but lots of combat there, too.
