Were these created by the RCM or privately produced aftermarket products?

I want one

It appears to be the 1967 Centennial coin and medallion removed from the red case set.

The other type, the black cased set included a 1967 Centennial $20 gold coin instead of the silver medallion.

Trivia -
These were the first ever boxed sets (proof sets didn't appear until 1981) marketed to the Canadian public by RCM and they sold like hot cakes.
1967 w/gold - 337,687
1967 w/medallion - 72,463

Both types of 1967 sets are by no means rare.

From the images provided, it appears to be a set assembled outside of the RCM by a third party.

Why do I think this? The medal included in the set does not match the medal produced by the RCM for the Canadian Centennial and it includes what appears to be the manufacturer's ID "CAN ART xxx" (best I can see) on its reverse.

I agree with Commems.

The original medal is larger and has different wording.

Another question.

Is this set even PL? Or is it just someone who repackaged Circulation coins and calling it a PL set?

The plastic looks weird.

Looks pretty much like a private put together effort. Those little medallions show up in various metals , including 10 K gold , silver and bronze, brass.
Companies like COTY used to do stuff like this. Pretty neat piece of memorabilia from the Centennial. Love to own one.
