I finally organized and cataloged all my wheat finds over the last two years or so. I estimate about 130 boxes in all give or take. I haven't been the best at keeping records. Anyway here's the count. 1909 - 1 1910 - 0 1911 - 1 1912 - 2 1913 - 1 1914 - 2 1915 - 0 1916 - 1 1917 - 5 1917d - 1 1918 - 6 1919 - 5 1919d - 2 1920 - 8 1921 - 0 1922 - 0 1923 - 0 1924 - 1 1925 - 5 1925d - 1 1926 - 3 1927 - 3 1928 - 3 1929 - 6 1929d - 1 1930 - 1 1931 - 0 1932 - 0 1933 - 0 1934 - 7 1935 - 14 1935d - 2 1936 - 13 1937 - 15 1938 - 6 1938d - 2 1939 - 10 1940 - 28 1940d - 7 1941 - 69 1941d - 7 1942 - 35 1942d - 10 1943 - 0 1944 - 119 1944d - 18 1945 - 61 1945d - 9 1946 - 68 1946d - 17 1947 - 17 1947d - 3 1948 - 44 1948d - 4 1949 - 20 1949d - 7 1950 - 19 1950d - 53 1951 - 27 1951d - 69 1952 - 33 1952d - 79 1953 - 32 1953d - 81 1954 - 8 1954d - 25 1955 - 42 1955d - 40 1956 - 41 1956d - 132 1957 - 23 1957d - 137 1958 - 19 1958d - 106 In addition were six Indian head pennies and a large bag of Canadians that is next on the sort list. This is the first time I can look at a large sample of coin roll hunting pennies and see where some dates are so much more common than others for roll hunting. I wonder how this compares with finds others may have come across. Edited by TMK65 10/02/2016 12:00 pm

Interesting. I think this gives an idea of how difficult it is to complete a Lincoln set from circulation. Not a single S mint and limited D mints before 1930 or so. I am guessing you are located in the east.

Ken.
Very difficult. Yes, I am in the East.

I see the four usual suspects all topped the century mark. Do you have your S mints in a separate sheet?
I keep a running total of my nickel finds... I need to get my cent totals updated... it's been a few months.

I apologize. I was up late finishing with organizing and I omitted the S Mints. I'll update when I get home this evening.

No problem... was just curious to see your totals so I can compare to mine, since I'm on the opposite coast. I should be getting my totals up from 7 1/2 months of searching up later today, hopefully.

Not bad. You will not be able to edit your first post to add the S mints, so just post them and I will copy them up there for you.

Just did my tally since I started back in mid-February through 9/30/16... I've found exactly 400 old U.S. cents over that time... 398 Wheats, and 2 Indians...

John.
Four steel pennies? I have yet to find one. :(
I see we both have had zero luck with 1931 through 33. I always hope to find one.

The other 395 wheats including two steels have come from rolls (one MWR, one CWR). I've never found a 1931-33 dated cent. I do wonder if I will ever find one. I'd say the odds are probably about the same as finding a 1950-D nickel - in other words, not very likely, but possible if you do enough volume or get lucky and run into a collection dump.

I have found more than 6000 Wheat pennies. I can not possibly list them all. But I keep all pre-1940 in a separate bag. One day I may list them.

My average output per box was 20+ wheats; so more than 300+ boxes

20 per box is actually above average from what I've seen... so you've "only" gone through 750,000+. Still a ton!

I actually forgot how many wheats I have and how many boxes that I've searched. After looking up my records, I searched 540 boxes between 2012 to 2014. 2 boxes in 2015 and 3 boxes in 2016. (50 CWRs = 1 box; 1 bag from the coin machine = 2 boxes) I have 72.5 lbs of after-40 wheats in bags, which are about 10618 pieces; I have 3.8 lbs of pre-40 wheats in a bag, which are about 556 pieces; I have some wheats in 2x2 and folders and an album. I only found 1 iron penny in a Brinx box and 1 iron penny in cwr; but I acquired over 100 iron pennies from coin machine magnets. I have 30 holes unfilled (not counting 1955-DDO and 1922 plain). Wheats that I am missing: 09S, 09SVDB, 10S, 11D, 11S, 12D, 12S, 13D, 13S, 14D, 14S, 17D, 20D, 22D, 23S, 24D, 24S, 25D, 26S, 27D, 27S, 28S, 30D, 31, 31D, 31S, 32, 33D, 38S, 39D.
