I looked at several hundred more Buffalo nickels today, no significant clashes...but....These were the full date nickels to be searched for Doubled dies and Re-Punched Mint Marks. I did manage to find a few interesting coins- 1 1935 DDR , 2 1937-D RPM , 1 1938-D RPM > While searching these circulated nickels, I wondered if I would even be able to catch much of anything and then...BAM...hits you like you could never miss something so obvious as this :

A-Tail-Of-Four-Buffaloes

I figure this coin to grade F-12, maybe better. About $100 dollar coin , to bad It's not mine unless I pay for it ! But I can share You should be able to spot the serif splits at the tops of all the letters , and the dramatic line down the "V"- very cool. I have pictures of the rest of the reverse, but they are tougher to spot , alot to do with wear. I put some lines to the "areas of interest " on E PLURIBUS UNUM.

The next three coins are the RPM's (Re-Punched Mint Marks ) They are really hard to spot , especially on these worn and dirty coins. Did you notice all the nasties on the close-ups ?!?!? The Mint Marks tend to be filled with ...I don't even wanna know..Anyway...With my trusty 10X loupe glued to my eye, I managed to spot these four. First the 2 1937-D RPM's- You can just see the curl of the underlying D at the front of the Primary D, and a little extra metal inside the D- through the gunk !

Lastly is the 1938-D RPM. This one is slightly North and West of the primary Mint Mark- you can just see the tiny nub of the underlying D's serif above the primary D's serif at the bottom. Small amount of extra metal inside the D . I really LOVE that scope, but I see things I don't wanna see on these coins.

If you made it this far...Both of those 37-d coins are in my envelope at the shop. If you notice they both have a small die crack between the "E" and "C" above the Mint Mark. Both of these coins have the same crack, but I think one is a little more severe. In the first RPM pic, you can just barely see a trace of the crack, in the second it is much clearer, and has a tiny crack off the side- Keepers ! I hope you enjoyed looking at these as much as I did looking for them ! Every time I see a true doubled die it helps , hope it helps you too !

Nice stuff,
I got a kick out of finding a 1935 DDR as well a few years back. You have a nice one there! The RPMs are excellent too. Great Job!

Have Fun,
Bill

Very nice finds. I love that $100 buffalo. Be nice to find that one. It jumps out at you. Most of the time we look too hard for varieties. But if they are there, they are obvious. I like to check deal stock of BU nickels and Cents at shows. Every once in a while you find something nice there. Some identified, others not till you spot them.
