1697 Halfpenny - Error

At first I thought this might have been from a removed mount, but after showing it to a few copper specialists, it was determined to more likely be a clipped planchet and as struck. So, I consider it an error. This coin is a higher grade than most William III's I see, however was cleaned and has some surface hairlines. Doesn't really bother me, this coin is certainly sharp.

Looks like a planchet defect to me.

I'd agree, planchet flaw and not post mint damage. The copper coins of 1694-1701 were often struck using cast blanks so examples showing these kinds of faults are not unusual. Here's one of mine which was also struck on a substandard blank (obverse). Double struck reverse too. Look at that date!
