I came across this draped bust dollar with damage. it is a beautiful coin otherwise, just the last digit removed is the issue.

What would you all say about value of this coin? Thoughts?

Somebody thought it was worth $660 just four years ago. http://www.greatcollections.com/Coi...F-12-Details
The coin market was stronger in 2012 than it is now so repeating that auction result would be tough IMO.
Personally I wouldn't pay $500 for it. Maybe $400 tops. It is considered severely damaged by the numismatic community.

Unless you are severely limited on your budget purchasing a badly damaged coin is almost always an error. For myself, it would have to be stupid cheap for me to consider it.

Remember that when collectors are searching for a coin a large percentage eliminate damaged detail coins immediately. Thus, resale is also limited to a much smaller percentage of potential purchasers.

This looks like an old attempt to change the date to 1804 where the applied "4" fell off. It is badly done and would have fooled no one due to the tooling at the date. You could have a jeweller try again and carry it as a pocket piece. It holds a small fraction of what an undamaged coin would bring, but still has some value to a type collector.

I guess it selling means someone really wanted it. But to me a coin with those problems in that price range is hard to understand, simply because if you can afford to spend $600 on a coin, why that one? I could see coins with lots of problems finding buyers in the $100 or less range as people with very limited budgets would overlook the problems simply to get certain coins in any shape.
