EDIT: Eeek, my bad, somehow I got this in the US forum when it was intended for the Canadian NCLT forum, Sorry. Mod, please move when you get a chance, thanks. 2017 weather phenomenon: fiery skyI guess this is another shopping channel commissioned coin or something? The RCM promo shows "80% sold" but it's not available through the website. Also, why are they minting and shipping 2017 coins already? Does the RCM have any particular code of ethics? For a minute I thought maybe they and other mints would get a pass on their Year of the Rooster coins, but no, the next Chinese Year of the Rooster begins 28 Jan 2017... It's shady enough buying a 2017 Honda in the middle of 2016, but coins? Just seems wrong to me :) Edited by NeoSpec 10/04/2016 3:12 pm

I've asked the same question - the small gold coins that I received in June were dated 2017 as well. It just seems wrong. As for the Weather Phenomenon coin, it is part of a series and was expected. What wasn't expected is it already shows as out of stock despite only being release last week. http://www.mint.ca/store/coins/1-oz...e_8000_2017&

This is the 4th and last of the Weather Phenomenon series. Nothing to indicate it's a commissioned coin, the first of this series was also a RCM 1st using black light technology (w/flashlight). The sunset, serene and calm, fiery sky and water: Several 2017 coins were already released in September/16 release as well. The best reason I can figure is it gives RCM and dealers a 16-month selling year. Just noticed the case, comes with the subscription: http://www.cdncoin.com/2017-20-Weat...5weather.htm

This coin is available everywhere; all the dealers have plenty of stock.

Yep, strategic marketing, a fierce battle to buy, the same thing over and over again but always forgotten by the next month when it begins once again. .

I'm not sure how the Mint sells out of any of their coins anymore. Every time I refresh their page there is another new release.

Ah ha, well wouldn't ya know, another mint FIRST, so exciting, I just can't wait for my three viewing experiences to arrive in the mail. Yes, perhaps I shall learn to become a hyper, almost sold out, better hurry and buy before it's too late. . MINT FIRST! THREE VIEWING EXPERIENCES! View your coin under black light (included with your order) to see the hidden colours of an intensely fiery red sunset. Move to daylight/standard lighting and the same setting now appears to grow dim, just as it would after the sun has set. Once the coin has been sufficiently exposed to light, view the coin in total darkness to see how glow-in-the-dark technology recreates a moonlit night! - See more at: http://www.mint.ca/store/coins/1-oz....V_ZhwHTOehA

So, yesterday I received the box (as shown above) and the flashlight - in one delivery. Today, I received the coin, in it's own envelope. (it was boxed in those single coin boxes). My question, why couldn't this all have been packaged together, shipped in one box? (there certainly was enough room in yesterday's delivery) I know everybody is on tight budgets, but really, I would have preferred a $5 discount to ship it all together, then free shipping where it cost the mint an extra $10 to ship separately. This isn't unique this year. I'm alright with waiting, and shipping things together - especially, if it's signature required, but for every little thing a separate package - it's too much. My Coin:

This series was first offered late last year as singles only and then RCM decided to make it a subscription with a "special box". The subscription then sold out immediately. There was already a flashlight given with the very first coin out of the four in this collection. So, I believe to make the last coin marketable, the RCM probably decided to include a flashlight with this final coin in order to sell it. I am sure that is why the RCM states sold out or awaiting stock on this item because of their subscriptions as well as other dealers now offering the complete set for sale with the unique packaging. I now have two flashlights. Just my guess.

That's a good question. As New1954 mentions, I also recall there was confusion early on about the subscription and case included or not and now the set also includes dual flashlights. Full circle of some disorganization it seems..... Thanks for the photo! I'm still waiting.
