Over the past couple weeks I have picked up several new certified coins to the ever growing collection.. I am going to need a new safe seeing as how my current one barely has any room in it anymore and its not a small safe by any means.. anyway on to the pics.. I'm horrible at pics but think these came out pretty decent. :-) Opinions and comments are more than welcome

No matter what I do and how many times I try to rotate a couple of these pics kept coming out sideways.. my apologies.. maybe something to do with cell phone when I took pictures but spent an hour trying to fix and just won't work.

I am considering on sending this 1882-0 out to PCGS for a crossover as it is a conditional rarity above ms-64... pictures do this coin no justice and the toning on this coin is absolutely gorgeous imo , just enough on both sides but not too much... if it crosses over it puts at at a whole new price level in a PCGS holder with a 65 grade on it. opinions appreciated on this one particularly

This one is an australian 2or more ounce round can't quite remember although it is very thick and I love it because I own a cockatoo which is depicted on the coin.. he is my lifelong buddy and I got this coin just to have it as I keep it in my pocket in a airtite so he is always with me even when he is at home in his cage..

Good stash

I would have no buyer's remorse for purchasing any of those coins. Congratulations.

Beautiful acquisitions indeed!

Love the toning on the 1882-O Morgan and the cockatoo coin.
We had a goffin named Boo-Boo but he died a few years back.
He was quite a character. They are so full of personality!

Those old small white ANACS were graded pretty strict. I have seen many cross with a few even getting a bump in grade. I like finding those holders as they don't pull PCGS prices.

Sorry to hear you lost him a few years ago.. I'm sure it wasn't easy especially with these birds being lifelong companions..Yes my birdy is quite the character and has quite the personality to go with it.. His name is lucky and he is an umbrella cockatoo and only 18yrs old now so he has a very long life ahead of him I hope. I have a picture on this forum of him somewhere with him helping me take the wrappers off the half dollar rolls while hunting for silver

That's 100% spot on description, thank you... it was very late and was frustrated with the picture rotation problem I was having so just gave a generic description off the top of my head at 2am or whatever ridiculous time it was.

That's good information to know and I had heard the old holders were graded stricter but wasn't sure if it was fact or opinion but going based off of some of the coins I have seen in these old holders it seems to be spot on, Thank You...Kinda got very lucky when I bought this coin as it was at a coin show and I happened to spot it and loved the toning and the old holder and asked him how much?.. Dealer replies with $70 so I told him I would be right back and went and checked with my reputable dealer (who also specializes in morgans) at another table and we both did some quick research on pricing and turns out it was a conditional rarity anything above ms-64 and current pricing on it from fair market value on numismedia had it listed for a lot more so I rushed back to table didn't even bother to try n get it cheaper.. Gave him the $70 and walked away smiling.. Dealer oversight on a typical common date but apparently didn't research into it enough to realize what he had...Here is the price breakdown as of right now on numismedia. MS-64= $140, MS-65= $1,100, and MS-66= $5,440 which is why I'm thinking about tryiong to cross it over.. However I did get a bit confused as to the last part of your response in the post so if you could ellaborate more I would greatly appreciate it :-)

I'll try.

There is a hierarchy in graded coins, I'm not going to get into the entire who is who and why one is better than the other. In general though the collecting community seem to favor PCGS. Dealers know this fact and price the coins according to it. Heck even in the blue sheet(a monthly price guide for dealers on graded coins) PCGS coins are typically priced higher then NGC. ANACS is not even listed in the blue sheet.

Most dealers that I know when purchasing coins will typically pay (for example) 64 price for a 64 PCGS coin. They may also pay 64 price for a 64 NGC coin, but more likely then not they will split the difference between 63 and 64 and offer that. When it comes to ANACS (blue and yellow label era) they will drop two to three grades and offer that, if they even make an offer. This is due to the tainted name ANACS has gotten over the years (if it's true or not) people just don't see the extra value in the ANACS name on the slab.

One real good friend who is a substantial dealer doesn't offer anything that's not in a PCGS slab (exception for NGC/CAC coin) for sale. He cracks out every ANACS and NGC (unless the NGC has a CAC sticker) and resubmits them for grading. SO when he buys he takes the grading fee into consideration on his offer.

So with all the ANACS "hate" from the dealers they typically pay less and have a secondary burden of regrading them or selling them cheaply. So for the Morgan you have the dealer may have payed $50 thinking it was overgraded and hoped he could get $70 out of it or have to payed to resubmit it and hopefully get a 63/64 so he could still make the same $20.

So when I say those holders don't get the PCGS prices thats what I meant. ANACS MS65 $70, That same coin in a PCGS holder $1000+. Same exact coin, just a different name on the plastic cases it's housed in.
