Picked up an example of Domitian and Titus. Turns out they may be rare varieties? I've done some research but if anyone has anything interesting they would like to add about these coins I would love to hear it!

Share your examples if you own some rare Flavian varieties...

Domitian RIC 425 (R)..3,41g, 19mm.

David Atherton's post on Forum. I believe to be about the same variety... http://www.forumancientcoins.com/ga...?pos=-116391

My coin..57$ US

Titus RIC V863 (R2) (struck under Vespasian I think)..3,08g, 17mm.

David Atherton's post on Forum I believe to be about my coin...

My coin...what does R2 rarity even mean nowadays? 62$ US

Without even considering the relative 'rarity' of the types I think the price was very good for two VF grade portrait coins of the pair. As a new collector you should not obsess too much about rare types and variants. The most important thing is whether the coins "float your boat" !

Personally even after 40 years I still prefer the stunning common types over the so so rare ones. In the case of Titus and Vespasian you always want to consider a Judea Capta as it is an iconic coin. Trajan has a few (Danube bridge and Mesopotamia et al Rv) as well as one or two others.
But always stick to eye appeal ! Crappy looking coins will eventually loose their luster. These two are both nice and affordable too. You did well. You must be putting in some time and effort. Beats watching reruns on late night TV.

Honestly FVRIVS, I'v been putting in some work over the past year, my collection has grown tremendously (with yours and everyones help)! I really do love the hunt and enjoy the research! My knowledge has sky-rocketed..I sincerely thank you all.

I bid on these coins because of their portraits and price, I didn't know they were rare until I did further research so I'm not to worried. I was just wondering if anyone has some knowledge on these coins that I may not find on the internet or in my books.

I like to multi task ;)..late night auctions..maybe some pawn stars...lots of booze and snacks hahaha enjoying the university lifestyle ..while I can..

thanks for your kind and supportive words! Always appreciated.
