Fairly interesting article but nothing earth shattering. According to the owner 20% of their sales occur through ebay and that gold and silver bullion sales generates the largest share of the store's profits.

I'd like to think that this is typical of the local brick and mortar coin shop, the ones in my area of Ohio also are fairly reliant on precious metal sales and have said that numismatic coins are sadly an afterthought. They also have an ebay store but it is not as active as the article B&M's ebay store, though they regularly sell coins that they don't think will have a local market there.

Well, that article pretty well sums up the numismatic bricks and mortar business. In addition to the items @Joe2007 mentioned, the aging and declining customer base, the small family type business and the modest profit margin could describe a lot of stores. It describes all the ones in my area.
