I found it on ebay. Looks like a nice coin. According to numismedia fair market value a 1898 ms66 Morgan is around $700, considering what you paid for it, I say you got a great deal. Here's the coin.

Very nice looking coin .. at a very nice price.

Interesting that it didn't get more bids ... it is nice enough where it should.

Lucky for you it didn't ....

Greysheet MS 66 is $540

Often I get pretty good deals by following TPG coins from non collector seller profiles. I kinda figure low bidding activity and have landed some super deals doing this. My max bid was $440, so I was really shocked with this one.

i don't really want to rain on your parade but I think that this is where the coin lost those higher bids..IMO it was collectors of quality dropping out to those who buy the slab and not the coin..sorry.

True, but it's still an easy flip for a nice profit. Not sure what your photo shows, just a few rub marks, unless I missed something.

thedollarman, With all due respect I'm aware its only an MS66, but I have a lot of respect for NGC Graders. Plus, the beauty of the toning.

Another thing, blemishes and rub marks tend to bother me less in MS, the real challenges are PL's & DPL's.

It is a beautiful coin and a safe price for sure. My sense is that the toning is hiding some problems.

Another thing I'll put out there is FMV rise for plus, star & cac designations. One must realize, there is no negative to FMV. In fact, when it comes to TPG's, I'll favor laboratory analysis any day over pictures or ones subjective opinion. Especially, when its backed up with a guarantee!

you realize PCGS and NGC arent laboratories right? they're literally people's subjective opinions..although they have multiple people who must reach a consensus it is still an opinion and they do make mistakes too.

it shows what appears to be some rather distracting and potentially fairly deep scrapes/hits on the eagle...i would rather be wrong and they turn out to be light luster breaks but I doubt it.
