I was sifting through some Pound notes that I have when I came across these two with stamps I'm unfamiliar with. Do these have any significance at all?
They are the paper money equivalents of chopmarks on silver coins. They are placed on notes by a merchant to attest to the fact they are genuine notes. They are often found on large denomination US notes circulating in the Middle East and South East Asia.
