@Redzapsid
There is going to be a point where people are just going to get fed up or can't afford to buy anything worth while on the mint because of the surge in prices. But until then I agree as long as they are willing to pay they will keep going up. still the bubble will burst. IMHO.

 would agree, but my assumption, that majority of buyers will be extremely selective in the purchases. We not in the 2017 yet, but already two expensive and wide-appealing products out. I understand that it special year, but with this rate people will just be over-fed. Other point: noticed something like 15 listings on ebay (pre-sale) Half of them might be large volume re-sellers or dealers, otherwise asking price do not justify it.

The best way to deal with the high prices is to not buy them, especially on the secondary market, where prices for high demand items is even higher than issue price. Is the new penny set nice? Yes. Very. Is it worth $710? Certainly not. Will people pay more on the secondary market. Most likely. It's just silly to me.

There are some people who goes gaga over those German mint who takes a bullion maple leafs and colourize it, most likely makes more profit than the RCM's tiny 3 to 4% profit.

Me personally.....I can't help but feel that any NCLT that's intended to celebrate or commemorate circulation coinage diminishes the real thing when it's larger than the original, therefore my wallet is stuck firmly to my side. I realize not everyone has the same opinion and that's okay. However it's obvious that RCM is able to justify substantialky higher prices through increasing the size.

MC and VIP membership whereby avid collectors get first whack at releases and can enjoy other buying incentives is a relatively recent development (2, 3 years?). Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Has that changed buying trends? Because I wonder who's left that buys new releases on ebay, especially for coins or sets of low international appeal?

Regarding oversized circulation based pennies:
Which is more impressive?
2012 5oz 62mm One Cent in a maroon clamshell 2017 5 coin set 7oz including two 54mm coins and 3 38mm in a wooden box
Add to the equation, the set costs $215 more at issue but is enhanced with rose gold and has twice the mintage
Opinions?

The collectors who are upper tiered mc, couldn't care about 1 to 2% rebate, but to have first shot of limited coins like the voyageur coin is the reward most looks forward. This set at this price point most higher mc and collectors would have already purchased, not sure who people think they can flip this set to

Never had the opportunity to purchase the Farewell to the penny sets so, for me, this set is perfect just like the new big coin series. I am happy with both of these purchases.
And, yes I am grateful for the opportunity to get the next voyageur coin at issue price like I did the with the first one.

With benefit of hindsight, since the 5oz. penny does sell at well over issue although infrequently, I would choose this coin

Take cost out of the equation since today, you could likely buy either the set or the 5oz for close to the same price. And of course some would by both, but forced to make a choice, which way would you go considering the coins rather than the potential appreciation? I'm torn. The set is nice but really 2017 as a date throws me off but I'm sure it will look great in the box with all that bling. The 12 sided coin is a great touch. On the other hand, the 2012 penny is pretty much just an oversized version of the last circulation coin. I guess in the end, it's moot for me since I have the 5oz but won't be getting the set. Still, fun to consider.

Interesting how the Mint went with the 'Godless' obverse

Why are people saying the set is overpriced when the coins taken individually are well within the range of RCM pricing for coins. Would they say the set is overpriced if it was a subscription where you can buy them separately? 1st 2 oz coin - $190 2nd 2 oz coin - $190 1st 1 oz coin - $100 2nd 1 oz coin - $100 3rd 1 oz coin - $100 Total = $680, Price of the set = $710 I am basing the price of the 2 oz coin on the GITD coins which sold for $190. The 1 oz coin is below the price of most 1 oz RCM coins where some of them sell for as much as $159 each. You can argue that the set is expensive but certainly not overpriced. You could always make 3 monthly payments of $236 if it is beyond your budget.

Yes, the price is in line with other RCM products... Which are all over priced. The RCM sells 1 oz silver maples. Do these sell at dealers for $100+/oz? How much profit is there on this $710 set? Lots!
