Just heard that Bhumibol Adulyadej AKA Rama IX of Thailand has died today after over 70 years on the throne. Taking office in June 1946, he was the 17th longest-reigning monarch in history (among those whose rule dates are specific and verified).

Although his record is far from spotless, he is generally held by the Thai people in high regard.

His death officially makes Queen Elizabeth II the longest-serving living monarch.

Let's see your coins from his seven-decade reign!

I just recently added this coin to my collection to complete the Y#183 set. I wonder if Thai coins will increase in value now.

They must, as it is a serious crime to say something ugly about the king in Thailand. It can get you locked up for a long time. Even standing on a picture of the king can be see as an insult. So yeah...

Most coins have millions and millions struck. I don't think it will happen. However... the crown prince announced one year of public mourning before taking over the throne. If they start producing something similar to a 'sede vacante' coin, now that would be of interest!
