I purchase a very limited number of NCLTs so I cannot say if this is across the board but lately most coins I purchased have an inordinate amount of particles.

I do not know if they are generated during transport but this is a new problem. I've had the odd spec here and there in the past but never to this level.

I do not expect the RCM to apply class-1 semiconductor environment standards but these are serious boulders that should have been picked up WELL before shipment - even with the untrained, naked eye.

As a collector, I expect a perfect mirror surface. I do NOT want to open the capsule and assert whether the anomalies are surface pits (BAD) or dust.

This may be why the RCM prefects to frost everything so we can't see those kinds of defects...

I found this a very common problem, and I have given up opening the capsule to blow the dust away. Now whenever I encounter this problem I just return the coin for exchange, as many times as it takes to get a good one.

BTW thanks for the picture, this coin is much nicer in hand than the Mint's photos.

For readers of this thread: Blowing dust off is best using something like:

I personally prefer using this:

I believe compress air could leave residue, especially if someone got too trigger happy.

I need to find my bulb-blower, for sure... Who knows what lubricants and other residues come out of a can of dust-be-gone....

Suggest you return the coin if possible.

I've noticed more coins like that lately.

The Mother Earth coin I received was worse than that. Returned it.

The Colville Goose coin has a few dust particles inside the capsule. Those 5oz capsules are very hard to open without damaging them. It's not too bad, but at my cost $599 (with tax) I expect it to be perfect. Probably will return that one too.

Times have changed. Now we have dusty, pitted and sometimes toned coins even before reaching collector's hands

What could be causing this lax qc?

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one seeing issues like this... I thought that I was being overly picky with my purchases as of late.

There were a few good comments in this topic: http://goccf.com/t/250540

Completely agree here... I wish they would invest time / resources to fix the problem, versus mask the issues.

My issue here: we all fork out hard-earned money for NCLT coins. I'm not sure that we should be "required" to audit / remedy production issues... kinda sad! I simply return "any" coin with defects of this nature. Perhaps if the RCM receives enough returns, they will realize that a true problem does exist?
