Hi everybody newbie here. Got this note a few years ago and was curious if any one is familiar with it. Looks like a misprint to me but would like to hear the opinion of others.

Hm, not sure - I don't fully understand the note printing process but the first layer (the opacifying agent) should be all white - I'm not sure where an orange ink would have come from at that point in the printing.

To me, it looks like some kind of physical degradation, but I really don't know. Considering that it's dated 1997, it's probably had a lot more wear and tear than other circulating $20 notes.

I think some sort of degradation is most likely too. Interesting that on the back it's quite precise but on the front the edge is irregular and goes outside the lines as it were.
Would probably need to look at in hand to see what exactly is going on.
