My father in law recently purchased some coins from one of his customers. He is a immigrant who has lived here for almost 20 years, but does not speak good english and does not have a lot of experience with American history. I took one look at the batch of coins he bought and immediately suspected they were all fakes. He didn't tell me how much he paid for them, and I am afraid to ask. So can you guys give these a look over and tell me if there is anything here of value? There are quite a few of these that are just really silly in terms of how obviously fake they are. What would you estimate these are worth. I have to give him the news and would like him to understand what they are worth. Thanks. Edited by Sap 03/16/2008 07:17 am

I dunno much about these, but they sure look fake to me for some reason... If it is, I'm terribly sorry for your father in laws loss..

Well...I would tend to agree with you, sorry to say. Probably little collector value, other than as curiosities. If he got "robbed", I hope he has some recourse with that customer.

Those coins look like they came out of a Cracker Jack box. Sorry... Sometimes a little bit of research pays off.
As far as worth ? Think tokens. Maybe worth a few cents to someone, complete garbage to others (myself included). I'd be curious to know how much was paid and if this person that sold it to him can be found.

It loads fine for me..... unfortunately.
These aren't even good enough to qualify as fakes really.

it wasn't loading early this morning I am guessing because the site he hosted the pictures on was down, its loading now and every one of these coins are fake and are pretty much worthless as far as collector value. Even a counterfeit collector wouldn't probably want these because they look like modern forgeries/fantasy pieces to me. I hope he didn't pay allot for these and if he did I hope he can get his money back from his customer. A couple of the designs on the Obverse are Pattern only designs (like the 1872,1873,and 1878 pieces) but those are so fake looking its unreal, the Washington quarter design with the date of 1865 is also a obvious fake because this design wasn't even produced until 1932 so you can tell that is a fake right off the bat

Maybe something there is real...but all look fake to me. Wow...sure hope your dad didn't pay a lot for them, but whatever he paid was too much! Some people collect fakes/counterfeits, so he might be able to recoup some of his money. Just know that it is fraud to try to sell them again as "real." Is there any way of tracking the fiend who sold them to him in the first place? The police often have "more important" things to do, but...

There is an off chance they could contain silver. Otherwise they're worthless.
