Hi everyone!
I recently bought a 4 reales cob which come from a shipwreck, but I'm having some trouble to identify it properly.

Help-ID-4-Reales-Cob

There's visible the shape of an "R" that should be the Assayer Mark but unfortunately the mintmark is gone.

Following this guide: http://www.atochatreasurecoins.com/...indesign.htm the Assayer with an R as mark could be :

Felipe Ramirez de Arellano 1646-1647 (Potosi)
or Nicolas de Rojas 1729-1730 (Mexico)

I will really appreciate if you can help me to identify it!

Many thanks,

Gasp.

@gasp,not my area of expertise, but here is another potentially useful website (Spanish-language) if you'd like to do some more research:

Hey @Spence , thank you for the link! definitely a great point of start to find more detailed info.

It's actually visible on the right side of the shield, the value "III" which I guess it mean the King Felipe III (Philip III):
Help-ID-4-Reales-Cob

Looking at the 4 reales minted under Philip III, I find a "model" from 1614 which has been Minted in Potosi and the Assayer mark it's an "R" ( 4 Reales S/F Potosí R: http://www.catalogodemonedas.es/?q=...moneda/13984

I can't find any other model which match the details visible on my coin, so I guess it's done?

For all the experts hwew, Am I missing some bits?

Many thanks again :)
