I just had one of the neighbor kids come by to talk to me about a "half dollar he had.
I examined it and the edges of the half dollar felt soft and mushy.
Upon questioning he told me he had heard you could bleach out a dollar bill. He had let it soak in bleach overnight.
No ink came off but the bill itself dissolved.
He thought he was being cute- not really trying to counterfeit , just experimenting with the dollar.
I told him the first rule of a "coin collector" is do not clean the coin.
He has now learned that about banknotes.
He will not be using any more of his Mums bleach.

The rest of the dollar was ruined
so this lesson only cost him a dollar. Would have been a better lesson if he used a larger denomination note.
