In the spirit of showing off new purchases...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/A-lot-of-3-...2815?txnId=0

The "cross in wreath" series has always been a favorite of mine, simply because they are enigmatic, somewhat scarcer than the other "common" designs, and there is always the possibility of a rare usurper, barbarous, or Hilderic! Saw the awesome portrait on this one, and bid probably way too much to win it.

Bid probably way more than I should have, but at least I also get to cross Licinius II off my list.

Can't quite tell, but mintmark is either ANTA (common) or ANT-Delta (rare). I have also never seen a portrait even remotely similar to this one before... is this an Antioch thing?

I like the tiny AE4's of the late empire there is always a chance of a hidden surprise. Correct me if I wrong but I believe that Theodosius II was the first emperor that abandoned the Chi-Rho for the design of the True Cross. Licinius II is one I don't have nice find.

Yes nice cross-in-wreath as part of a three-emperor lot. Great pick-up!

Cool coins. At $8.33ish a piece I think you did okay on price to my uneducatedness. Especially if it ends up being a rare version.

Here is a nice little page to show the type:

http://esty.ancients.info/ricix/type68i.html

The examples illustrated there were cherry picked for the purpose of the educational website... these are usually in horrid condition with little or no legend or mintmark, and very rarely any detail whatsoever in the portrait.

I have actually been saving all of my examples in a little baggie... I think I am up to about two dozen by now, and only two or three have enough detail to ID with 100% certainty.
