I've found out that there were more than one ss gypsum empress ships but with the year of the coin I believe its the one I mentioned in my first post. Living close to the Hantsport, NS port, it's probably from someone in the area who used to sail on that ship.

Yeah, I did a little search on the ship -- or ships. It's kind of interesting.

I found a site ShipsNostalgia.com. You could try posting your pic there and see if anyone else has seen an Encased Coin like yours or if they recognize that brass circle.

If someone does -- how fun would that be?

Wouldn't it be something if somebody recognized it? Or could ID the brass circle? -- that is, if it came off a ship.

Anyway, the more information you can get -- the more interesting it will be.
