Hello Spence,
Yes, I followed the link and read it. It is indeed a catholic devotion medal, characteristic to Benedictine order. Seller in your link mentions that it was introduced there buy spanish priests. I couldnt find any further online resources and was hoping someone here would know to make an analysis

Quote: someone here would know to make an analysis Ok just to be sure that I understand @makanudo, are you looking to know the specific alloy of metal? What type of analysis do you need?

I was hoping someone would know all the symbols and writings, which would help identify who made it and aproximately when (in case it is original and not a replica).

ok well, you can learn more about the acronyms and symbols on websites devoted to Philipine Alternative Medicine websites, such as this one: http://stuartxchange.org/AntingAnting.htmlI can't help you with dating it. These seem to have been cast by various private entities on and off for decades, so I'm not sure what difference there would be between an original and a replica. Yours has slightly more detail than many I'm seeing for sale online, which might suggest an earlier date, but that is only a wild guess.

Spence,
Thank you for the effort and for the info. This is basicaly a christian medal worn by devoted christians(mainly women) to show their devotion to god. It has been exported as a cultural heritage to SEA but it is european tradition since 12th century. I guess its too specific for this forum, but there arent any specialised forums for this.

Quote: I guess its too specific for this forum Yes sorry I can't be of more help. I hadn't considered the possibility that this would be a 12th Century crusader or pilgrim badge. That definitely isn't my area of expertise, but I kinda thought that those were lead or silver not bronze.

I didnt say I thought this medal was 12th century. It may be 18th century at best, but it could be late 20th cemtury as well. The only way to determine this would be metal analysis, for which I dont have means. There are however people who can make an educated estimate of age, just by inspecting the object. Here is an interesting link in case you care to read about themmedals) some more.
