I would describe my roll hunting as a recreational pursuit. I go through roughly one box every six months, rotating through denominations.

If there's any obsession in this, it's in keeping track on a spreadsheet of the years/mintmarks.

I do not roll hunt now. When I did it was much more fun (and profitable) since I had a girlfriend working as a bank teller. I never worked a box though, it was always CWR.

I have been tempted to restart, especially seeing the finds posted here. However, as mentioned, time is a commodity. I will just have to continue living vicariously through this forum.

So, to answer the questions, CRH was a mild obsession that fueled the larger hobby.

I used to do about a box a week. Amassed about a thousand older nickels, nearly a hundred pounds of copper cents, and not even $20 face in silver.

I got burnt out. I got married and suddenly in the day-to-day upkeep of a house, my time became too precious to spend looking to get a theoretical $4 profit from a box of nickels. I did search a few more boxes when I had to run overnight releases at work, just because I was bored out of my mind and too tired to clean dishes or fold laundry.

I would love to have finished my nickel set from circuLation, but I can cruise ebay during my lunch break, and come home to be a dad and husband to my family.

Until I joined this forum, about a year ago, I did not realize you could still score an occasional silver half in roll hunting. I have had health issues in the last few months so I don't go at it very much, anymore, but every month or so I will order a box. I still enjoy searching but not as much as I used to. Was it worth it to go through the equivalent of 7+ boxes to get some silver? I think so. Like everything else I have collected, stamps, baseball cards, etc, my enthusiasm wanes after a while. I'm still waiting for the next thing to grab me.
Cheers!
