Is the rim on your 83 round or 12 sided?

It is 12-sided, but only slightly so. The planchet is a bit undersized relative to the Canadian small cent. Note that all the planchets are rimmed into Type 2 blanks as round planchets, the collar die creates the 12-sided edge during the strike. So in this case, the collar strike is weak.

Also, what is the surface finish on your specimen

It looks like a steel-coloured small cent, struck with fresh dies (I can see the die polish on the surfaces of the fields).

I ask for a test on both the plated metal as well as the planchet metal?

That is pretty much impossible with an XRF. The X-ray beam penetrates the coin, giving you the composition of the surface and near-surface. That said, it would be a very quick test to see if your coin was bronze versus a plated planchet. I have an XRF in my lab - I would happily test it for you, since you are reluctant to take our word on this coin. PM for me details. No cost to you, other than the return postage.

Hello SPP, in our last communication I was requested to PM you to arrange details to complete an XRF test on a 1983 one cent coin. My attempt to PM you was not allowed due to my status. I messaged staff requesting clearance to PM you and didn't receive that clearance. Could you please PM me to initiate those arrangements? Thank you SPP, waterboy41.
