I'd like your thoughts on this coin. I'm working on a Type Set and I'm trying to get AU coins for it. This is a possible, although after looking at this magnified I'm not so sure it is AU...and looks like it may have been cleaned

I do think it's been cleaned. The scratch marks are obvious especially around the E on the reverse.

It doesn't look obviously cleaned to me and the level of detail would be OK for an AU. However, the surfaces look rough and slightly porous. I suspect environmental exposure that stopped just short of corrosion. There doesn't seem to be any luster and that would rule out an AU grade. I'm sure you can easily find a better example for your set.

of grampa...if that is an AU coin, does it meet your standard, relative to the other AU coins you have in the set? Or will it stick out like a sore thumb?

This would be the first coin in the set that wasn't BU.

How accurately do your pictures show the color and surfaces of the coin? From the pictures, this IHC may have AU details, but it isn't a great example, in my mind.

I'm not an expert grampa, so don't take my word that it's been cleaned. To my-still-learning-eyes, it seemed obvious to me, but I'm still learning.

Looks to be a low grade AU and I think it's been cleaned
