@brightspark, first welcome to CCF. Second, this looks like an early British coin to me. Is this maybe a metal detector find?

This could be from Henry II ( or Richard, John Lackland, or Henry III). I can't make out enough letters, but you might have luck comparing against the coins on wildwinds:

These are tricky for me to differenciate even in good shape I am often unsure, hope you find a match.
