When it came out yesterday, I placed an order for one, thinking that I would just cancel it later if I changed my mind. Until this afternoon, it was showing as 87% sold. All of a sudden it became sold out, and on the mint website it says "Also available from Canadian Coin & Currency!".
I checked out the Canadian Coin and Currency site and they are selling them for $1500 instead of $999.95. Seems a bit fishy to me. Is this normal?
Edit: Just noticed this on the Canadian Coin and Currency page for the coin: "Note: This first coin only is now priced at the current market value. However, you can still get this coin at issue price as part of the full five coin subscription set while limited quantities remain." Edited by tr9865 11/02/2016 7:12 pm

I'm curious. How many people on the forum have taken the plunge and subscribed to this series?

I already have one on order from the mint and am not looking to buy another, so it's not a big deal for me. I just thought it was strange that it sold out very suddenly and the mint is now telling people they can get it at CC&C for 50% more.

If it's a commissioned coin, don't read anything into RCM selling out. They may have left with very few to sell, making it appear that it's hard to come by. Then "Already Sold Out At the Mint!" has the potential to increase popularity for Shopping Channel and CC&C. A sort of marketing shell game.....

No worries, after Bromberg and the shopping channel finish trying to pawn it off on everybody it will show up at RCM under the category BACK IN STOCK.

I could have sworn I heard Bromberg say that 400 of these were sent out of the country leaving 800 for Canada. Anyone else watch and hear something like this or is old age starting to creep up on me?

But it doesn't mater The mintage is worldwide....if you do not live in one of the major cities, you probably will be the single owner of the coin around.

RCM actually directing people to a specific dealer is just nuts. Especially with the mark up. Nuts!!

I had no idea the mint made commissioned coins. It makes a bit more sense now. Do you know of any other examples of commissioned coins?

Other coins include the Glow in the Dark 2 oz silver coins. The last one being the Coral Reef coin.
