Some more sets came in to the local coin shop.
I am putting them in my, "To buy" bin.

I am curious if these sets are popular in Canada?

I really like how they make good additions to my U.S. Prestige sets.

It's not often someone collects every year set, it can become repetitive and bulky. However, I do consider these an EGO - "Everybody's Got One." Usually to signify a birth year or special event.

Most dealers in Canada are sitting on a pile of these and when silver spikes they're often the first to go to the melt bucket. The silver dollar is removed and the rest is sold for a few dollars. Most of the sets from the 70's and 80's sell for spot + a few bucks. Some of the 90's sets have some extra value, the 1991 for the quarter of course, and then they migrated the dollar to 92.5% silver. Also, don't forget the 1973 large bust, a tough but valuable find.

I would say most people that collect the silver dollars crack them out and put them in a capsule or 2x2 for organization and display purposes.

I envy your passion for collecting these sets and OGP commemoratives :) Keep it up!!

Thanks for the reply SelectCoins.

I do like how they look. I thought I was buying them cheap $9.00 USD.

I have all the silver dollars..from around 1970 through 1999.

I just started buying these sets, I think I have around 10 or 12 so far.

I understand about taking up space. I end up packing them into boxes
and putting them in storage for now.

I'm that guy, or at least was, I have each set from 1971-2008.

GR58, if you're going to continue adding to this set, beware the 1971-73 sets. The coins are set in a red flock coated plastic liner and flock has damaged a lot of coins (do a search in the forums for more info.)

The 1980 SD with the Polar Bear and Northern Lights is one of my favourites

I have purchased many of the silver dollars as singles, but have
a few of the early sets 71 to 73.
Agree with McNickel on the flock lined sets from 1971 to 1973.
Toxic flock damages the coins. They can be conserved with care.
You can get some wild toners.

Interesting link SilverDon .. thanks for posting it.

Now I wonder if the toning of my 73 dollar is because of being in the set.

I think I have seen some of the 71 - 73 sets, but none in good shape.

I have busted up a few 1967 sets where the coins were grey ..or dark.
Couple years ago one set had the 67 gold coin in the set. Gold was high
so I broke up the set .... now I wish I still had that set.
