Not sure what I have, But this looks like a small D directly on top of a large D Mint mark. Is this a variety for this year? I am ruling out Machine Doubling because there is a difference at the top and at the bottom of the mint mark.

Also I don't see Machine Doubling on the rest of the coin.

It is machine damage, where all the glare is. It is machine damage. I can see it under it a bit.

Sorry, it not a RPM. It is machine damage to the coin after the strike. You can see the same thing on other devices on the reverse at the same angle. (probably more of this is hidden in the glare with the lighting?

then I would assume the shift was north? I also show a shift south when you look at the top of the coin.

Well I checked the coin again under 3oX and it doesn't show the machine damage you are seeing in those other areas. I looked from all angles. Please answer why I would have shifts opposite each other. one up and one down. I will try to send better pictures

Here are some more pics. Again I tried not to sharpen as much so to keep the detail the same and maybe reduce the machine damage look.

The die might has swung one direction and back again. This happens sometimes. (not real often though, usually in one direction) It does not add a premium to the coin.

Note on the bottom of the mint mark. The shape shows a flat bottom to the mint mark where the mint mark was moved by the MD. (the first two images show this on the thread just above this one)

Thanks Richard. Is there an image of a D over D on the 1964 quarter? The ones I have seen for sale are all machine damage or have worse images than mine!
